It's the Holiday Season...

The Friday after Thanksgiving, in B's words, "Was the best day ever!"
We didn't fight the crowds and attempt Black Friday shopping.  We stayed home and officially kicked off the Christmas season.

Charlie, our Elf on the Shelf, made his very first appearance at our house...

If you aren't familiar with The Elf on the Shelf story...Santa sends an elf to your house.  You are to give him a name(the girls name our elf Charlie), then each night he flies back to the North Pole and reports to Santa if you have been bad or good.  Then he comes back and sits in a different spot.  Sometimes Charlie picks the same spot two nights in a row.  He must be comfortable in some places ;0).

You cannot touch Charlie or he looses his magic and won't be able to fly.
Next, we set up our Nativity....
I put down my guns this year and decided to let the girls do it all by themselves.  This was a huge step for me because I am very particular about my Nativity scene.

It still looks just like this...
I haven't touched it at all.  Another huge step for me.

We have a rule in our house and if you have followed this blog for a while, you know that we don't put our big Christmas tree up until after Brad's birthday which is the 7th of December.  So, guess what we do on December 8th?

Now that doesn't mean that we can't put the girls' tree up!  This year I also let them decorate their tree all by themselves and it actually looks pretty good!

Once the tree was up, the girls wrote their letters to Santa.  We had a little...okay HUGE...surprise in store for them in the evening and a letter to Santa was a must.

Mel wrote her letter all by herself!  B even wrote one for Jody.  She's such a thoughtful little girl.
After naps we had the girls put on their pajamas which confused them because they took a nap in their clothes, but had to put their pajamas on after they woke up.

Brad and I managed to keep the secret and the girls were super excited when we pulled into the parking lot at the Whitewater Valley Railroad.

We were going to ride The Polar Express!!!

Mel refused to have her picture taken so here is B outside the train station...
Again, she refused to have her picture taken, but here she is waiting for the train to depart...
Miss B always willing to smile for the camera...

We arrived at the North Pole and while we were waiting for Santa this was the best picture I could get.  Please excuse the random lady's reflection...
Santa came to visit each child on the train, read their letters and gave them each the first gift of Christmas, a bell...

On Saturday was Cookie Day.  Brad's family has been doing this for the past 33 years.  B loved helping this year..
Jody enjoyed all the cuddling she got...
Always creative Stu making something out of the Mexican Wedding Cake dough...
Feel free to use your imagination...
Don't let her fool you....
She may look asleep, but as soon as I turn my back I'm sure she'll sneak a cookie.

Told you!...

I hope you all are enjoying all the holiday preparations as well!
