RIP, Tuff...

Today we had to put our dog, Tuff to sleep.  It was pretty unexpected and was probably one of the hardest things I have ever had to do.
It's hard not to be attached to someone who is so loyal to you.  I remember one of Brad's friend's mother saying that a dog is a heartbreak waiting to happen.  This statement is so true.  Knowing that they are dogs and are only here for a short time, certainly doesn't make it any easier.  Even though he was sometimes hard to get along with, he was still an awesome dog.  He was great with the girls and the girls loved him.

He was our first kid.  We got him in November of 2002(we weren't even engaged yet...we got engaged in December).  I remember it was pouring down rain the night we went to get him and had been raining all day.  Brad tried to talk me out of going, but I couldn't wait to see him and bring him home.  He was the runt of the litter, but if you saw him later on you would never know it.  He never missed a meal even though he probably should have!  People often commented that they had never seen such a fat Blue Heeler!

Here's a few flashback pictures of Mel at 18 months playing with Tuff...

We brought him home and buried him in the grove of pine trees in our backyard.  The girls painted a piece of slate that we used as a tombstone.  They made sure that he was nice and comfy with his bed, some milk bones, a ball and squeeky toy.

Rest in Peace, Tuff.  Thanks for being such a great dog!
