Craft Time...Funny Snowmen...

I promise I will blog about something other than kid's crafts one of these days.  It's been busy yet boring around here so there isn't much to blog about other than the crafts I have been entertaining the kids with.

We made this craft the same time we made the melted snowman craft.  Margaret was with us and we had just gotten a huge dumping of snow, so I thought snowman crafts were appropriate.  However, as I sit here and type this it is currently 50 some degrees outside and we are expected to get thunderstorms later on along with 1-2 inches of total rainfall.  So, maybe you can pretend all the rain is snow and have some fun with your little ones while making this easy craft.
First, paint your child's hand with white paint. (no photos of this step because I was painting three girls' hands and it wasn't washable so after each one I promptly said, "Now go wash your hand and don't touch anything!!!")

Then dip the paint brush in the white paint and add snowflakes as well as some white at the bottom to look like snow on the ground.

Once the paint is dry, add the faces as well as anything else you would like on your snowman.

That's it!  I told you it was easy.

Here is B's masterpiece...
Mel's (she likes the color red, as you can see)....
And last, but not least Margaret's...

Craft Time: Melted Snowman...

The girls, plus Margaret, made this craft during our last significant snow fall and since we are expected to receive 2-4 inches this weekend, I thought it would be the perfect chance to share it with all of you.  In case you are snowed in with your kids and looking for something to keep them entertained.

You will need:
white felt (white construction paper would work also)
orange felt or orange construction paper
black felt or black construction paper
cotton ball
googly eyes
black beads
buttons or pom poms
twigs
glue(we used craft glue)

First,  cut out your melted snowman piece from the white felt. Then cut a nose out of orange felt and a hat out of black felt...

Find two twigs for the arms...
Start by gluing the white felt to a piece of construction paper (we used blue for the sky, but any color will do). Then add your cotton ball and hat.  The hat is actually supposed to set directly on top of the cotton ball, but the girls found that part to be a little too tricky, so they glued it above the cotton ball.
Next, add the eyes, nose and beads for the mouth...
Add the buttons or pom poms and twigs and you are finished!

Next Time I Won't Be So Nice...

Mel, Jo Jo, and I went to our local Kroger store yesterday.  I made a quick dash through the store and grabbed only the items on my list (very rare for me).  I was in a hurry because I was headed to B's school to eat lunch with her.  Once I reached the checkout, I let out a little sigh of frustration.  There was only one checkout open (like usual).  The U-Scans were open, but I had several items and it always seems to take forever at those things so I went to the only open check out.  My sigh wasn't because I was frustrated at the lack of check-outs, it was because of the cashier.  Every time I go to her she always makes some comment about the girls and how it would be so nice if I had a boy.  Every.Single.Time.  One would think that since we live in a small town that she would remember me and remember that she has already told me the same thing several times, but she doesn't.  This time I only had two of my three girls, so I thought maybe she wouldn't comment, but she did.

I started placing my items on the conveyor, with Mel's help.  She casually says how I have an awesome helper to which makes Mel blush and results in her covering her face and stop helping me.  Then the comments start to fly.  She looked at Jo Jo who was in the car seat in the shopping cart.  She was all bundled up and you could only see her head.  She had a blanket draped over her that was pink on one side and brown on the other, but only the brown was showing.  The cashier says, "Did you get a boy this time."  To which I casually reply, "Nope. Girl."  Then she says, "Oh.  I see the pink now.  I saw the brown and thought it was a boy."  Then the real kicker comes.  She opens her big mouth and says, "Too bad you didn't have a boy. I always like to see people have a boy and a girl."  Wow!!  Are you kidding me????  I guess I am too nice of a person, because after listening to this lady say this to me more times than I can count, all I can say in reply is, "As long as they are healthy, I don't care what they are."  I think when I said that she was still rambling and she probably didn't even hear me.

My husband and I didn't have any trouble conceiving our three girls, fortunately, but what if we had?  What if after several failed attempts, I finally would have gotten pregnant?  What if I would have had several miscarriages in between?  The list of "what ifs" could go on.  Would my response have been different?  I hope so.  I can't believe this woman would say this to me not knowing what we could have gone through to bring these three beautiful girls into the world!

Next time, I'm not biting my tongue because I feel I need to stick up for those people who are having difficulties bringing children into this world.  I feel I need to stick up for our three beautiful, healthy, happy girls!

Project 52...Week 2...

I love this picture.  I love the little girl in it.  I love that she has drool on her bottom lip.  I love that she's smiling even though she has a rainbow afro on her head.  I love that I captured her eyes.  This picture makes me smile!

3 Months...

Little Miss Jo Jo was 3 months old on New Years Day.  This little girl is so happy all the time!!!!  She rarely cries except for when she is tired or when she wants her bed.  She is sleeping all night.  One night she slept from 9:30 at night until 9:30 the next morning!!!!  Plus she takes a one hour nap in the morning and a 3-4 hour nap in the afternoon!!!  B and Mel weren't the best sleepers, so I was definitely due for a good one.  I keep waiting for her to throw us a curve ball, but that is completely normal for babies.  Once you think you have them figured out, they go and change their schedules.

She smiles all the time.  She laughs.  She has discovered her hands which means she can now grab things like the dinner plate that is setting right in front of her!  She also has to constantly play with the bottle when you are feeding her so that makes for an interesting sight.  She usually ends up with formula all over her face and shirt!  She likes to suck on her fingers to pacify herself.  She has done this from day one and we are constantly taking them out of her mouth and inserting the pacifier.  The pacifier is easier to break them from.  You can't take those fingers away!  She isn't rolling over yet, but she is getting closer everyday.  I think she may roll from her back to her belly before she rolls from her belly to her back.  Every time we try to put her on her belly she tries to crawl!

She is doing everything a 3 month should be doing and for that I am thankful!

Snow Fun...

We have had a lot of snow so that means the girls have gotten a lot of play time in the snow....B and Mel anyway.  Jody has only gotten to experience it from the window, which is the way I prefer it.  I am definitely not a lover of snow!
B was mad because she fell off the sled...
Mel didn't want to have her picture taken, as usual...
B got back on the saddle...I mean sled...
What's that I see???...
Oh yes!  It's a Power Ranger mask...
It's great at keeping the snow out of your face....or so I've been told!...
And off Ms. Power Ranger goes sledding into the hills...

Project 52: Week 1...

A couple years ago, I participated in Project 365.  I enjoyed it.  It forced me to get my camera out and practice my photography skills every.single.day, but it was a huge commitment!  In the same sense, it was a HUGE accomplishment once I finally reached day 365. I thought about doing a picture a day on Instagram however, I have recently noticed that I don't get the "big camera" out as much as I used to.  I guess it's more convenient to just whip out the IPhone and snap a picture because I always have it with me.  Plus, I take like four pictures a day on Instagram so that wouldn't be much of a challenge.  I'm a little busier than I was 2 years ago because we are plus one child, so I decided that I could take a picture a week for one year.  52 pictures.  That's not bad.  I can handle that and it will still force me to drag out the "big camera" and focus on my photography!

So here are the photos for week #1.  As always, I couldn't pick just one that was my favorite, so here are three photos from week 1...

I hope that you enjoy following along with me and maybe some of you will decide to participate with me.  Happy Friday everyone!!

B's 7th Birthday...

B turned 7 on December 19th.  We celebrated on December 18th because the 19th was my Grandma's funeral.  B didn't seem to mind.  She was very understanding.  Maybe it was because she got her presents a day early.  I don't know.  The only items on her list were the American Girl Doll named Mckenna, a puffy vest with "raccoon fur" around the hood, and a peace sign watch.  Being the awesome mom that I am, I surprised her with a couple other things that included a Justin Bieber CD, a Taylor Swift CD, and a CD player that she can keep in her room to listen to her new Cds.  That is the only place she can play her new CDs.  I don't need The Biebs blasting in my kitchen at all hours!
She was so excited when she opened all her gifts.  She is definitely growing up.  No more "cutsie" stuff!

Here she is with her very first American Girl doll and her snazzy new vest with "raccoon fur" around the hood...

I can't believe she is 7!!!  Love her to pieces!!
