Halloween Craft #2...Crazy Q-tip Skeletons...

I promise I will get you caught up on our crazy life in a bit, but right now I am trying to post all the Halloween crafts and recipes that we have been doing before the big day gets here so maybe you will have time to try them also.

This idea, once again, came from Family Fun magazine.  I love that magazine!

It's pretty easy, but requires A LOT of glue.  We used craft glue instead of Elmer's because it dried quicker.

1)Cut q-tips in various sizes.

2) Glue a cotton ball to a q-tip(the head).

3) Next, glue q-tips together to form the bones.  (Like I said before, use A LOT of glue!)

Tips: create your project on a piece of saran wrap to keep it from sticking to the work surface.
Also, I wish we would have just glued ours to a sheet of black paper, which we still might do.  Once they are dry they are still very fragile.  We haven't had any fatalities yet (wait they are already skeletons, so is that possible?), but I am waiting for it to happen.

4) Cut shapes out of black construction paper for the eyes, nose, and mouth.

5) Once they are dry, you can hang them or just sit them on a shelf for display!

Here is B's...
You can't see her skeleton's bones very well because she decided to glue a black piece of paper to hers with the letters, J.B. on it.  It's supposed to be an X-Ray...I believe...and the J.B. stands for Justin Bieber.  She definitely has Bieber Fever which makes her dad cringe!

And here is Mel's...
I thought Mel would be the one to get frustrated with this craft, but it was actually B.  B didn't like the idea of using so much glue.  Oh if only she was that conservative with everything else!

White Chocolate Candy Corn M&M Cookies...

It's been a while since I posted a recipe.  It's been a while since I've baked actually.  I have had some generous family members cook and bake for me after we brought Jody home, but it feels good to be back to baking and cooking.  Baking is a great stress reliever for me.  That and a glass of wine...or beer, anyway...I thought I would share this easy and yummy recipe with you.

It came from Lilluna.com and contains white chocolate candy corn m&ms that I thought I may not be able to find, but once again the Super Wal-Marts did not disappoint!

White Chocolate Candy Corn M&M Cookies

1 C. Brown sugar
1 C. sugar
1/2 C. margarine or butter (I used butter)
1/2 C. oil
2 eggs
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
3 C. flour
1/2 bag white chocolate candy corn m&ms

1) Crush m&ms into small pieces.  (I put them in a Ziploc bag and crushed them with the rolling pin.  Also, a great way to relieve any frustrations, just sayin')

2) Cream butter, oil, brown sugar, and white sugar.  Add eggs and beat just until mixed.

3) Add remaining ingredients, including crushed m&ms.  Mix well.

4) Drop onto greased baking sheet. (At this point, you can place 3 or so additional m&ms on top.  I didn't because I didn't want a strong white chocolate taste.)

5) Bake at 350 degrees for 7-9 minutes.

Enjoy!

Halloween Craft Time...

I apologize for my pretty much non-existent blogging this past month or so.  Things have been crazy around here, especially the last two weeks as we are adjusting to our family of five.  It has taken two weeks, but I finally feel like I am getting back into the groove of the newborn thing.  Four years is a long time and it's amazing how much you forget...like how much you value your sleep.  We are fortunate that she is a good sleeper.  She is the only one out of our girls who hasn't had their days and nights mixed up, thank goodness for that!

Despite all the craziness, I have been keeping the girls busy with some Halloween crafts as well as baking up some goodies so I will try to share them all with you before Halloween arrives!

This cute little owl craft came from Family Fun magazine.  I took pictures of all the steps, but accidentally deleted all of them!  Oops!

Here is what you need:
Toilet paper roll
2 cupcake liners
orange construction paper
white construction paper
construction paper for the eyes
black marker
tape or glue

1) Trim about an inch from the top of the toilet paper roll, fold in the top and secure with tape.
2) Cut one cupcake liner in half.  Then cut the other cupcake liner in quarters leaving only the ruffles.
3) Cut circles for the eyes, and a triangle for the beak.  Cut two circles out of a cupcake liner for the back of the eyes(optional).
4) Draw your eyes with black marker.
5) Glue or tape the halved cupcake liners to the back of the toilet paper roll.  These are the wings.
6) Next, glue the ruffles to the front of the toilet paper roll.
7) Glue on the eyes and beak and you are finished!

Introducing....

We welcomed our newest addition to the family last Monday.  Miss Jody came into our world at 3:46 pm weighing 6 pounds 11 ounces and was 19 1/4 inches long.

I had to be induced.  This is nothing new to me as I had to be induced with B and Mel also.

The only thing that didn't go as planned during the labor process was the epidural.
All the anesthesiologists were in surgery and I only had my epidural in for about 15 minutes before it was time to push and it finally kicked in about 5 minutes before it was time to push.  I almost had to do without, which terrified me!

Proud big sisters and Dad...

The girls each got her a new stuffed animal.  They think every time she cries she needs her stuffed animals...

A little teamwork...

The girls enjoy reading to her...

Mel finally decided to hold her yesterday (Sunday) and she finally said her name today.  She had been calling her "baby."
We are adjusting gradually.  The hardest part is from 7-10 in the evening.  That is her fussy period.  Luckily, she is a good sleeper and only wakes us once in the night (hopefully I didn't just jinx myself!)  That is a huge difference from the other two.  They were every two hours for at least the first month it seemed like!

Love my girls...
